Nisaimanina,
Child cancer survivor

At 11 years old, Nisaimanina was getting thinner everyday, and had a fever she just couldn’t beat.

A visit to the doctor revealed that she had blood cancer, and only a bone marrow transplant would save her life. Her older sister, then 15 years old, did not hesitate to donate hers.

Nisaimanina is now in her seventh month of survival.

“Until today, there are no words to describe my feelings when I found out Nisa has cancer,” Nisaimanina’s mother Zuraidah says. “It was unexpected — one second, she’ss active and heading for school; the next second, she’s in the hospital.”

“It was an emotional time for us, but we had to accept our reality eventually.”

Zuraidah adds that our Children’s Home of Hope — our free accommodation for children and their caregivers from outside of Kuala Lumpur — was a clean and comfortable stay.

“It also allowed me to see that many people are in worse situations than we,” she says. “All of the parents here are grateful for each other’s presence, and we support each other.”

Apart from giving children with cancer a safe and clean stay while they undergo cancer treatment, our Children’s Home of Hope also provides a supportive environment for parents.
